Re:Zero -Starting Life in Another World- has become the center of anime community discussions over the past week. What began as overwhelming praise for Season 4 Episode 11 has now snowballed into multiple debates across MyAnimeList, IMDb, and Anime Trending, with fans arguing over everything from review bombing to weekly popularity rankings.
Here’s everything that happened.
Re:Zero Episode 11 Earns One of the Highest IMDb Scores
Following its release, Episode 11 quickly became one of the highest-rated anime episodes on IMDb. Thousands of users praised the episode, with many calling it one of the best episodes of the entire series.
The episode also received a noticeable number of low ratings shortly after its release. Despite that, it continues to maintain an exceptionally high score, with fans celebrating its strong reception.
Fans Notice Unusual Ratings on MyAnimeList
Around the same time, another discussion began on MyAnimeList, but this time involving the original Re:Zero light novel.
Fans noticed that the series had accumulated more than 2,000 one-star (1/10) ratings, making up roughly 7% of all submitted scores. Despite the influx of low ratings, the light novel still holds an overall score of around 8.86, with nearly half of all users awarding it a perfect 10.
Many fans described the sudden spike in 1/10 ratings as review bombing, while others argued that low scores don’t automatically indicate coordinated behavior. MyAnimeList has not commented on the situation, and the exact cause of the voting pattern remains unknown.
Anime Trending Results Spark New Debate
The discussion didn’t end there. After Episode 11 aired, many fans expected Subaru and Emilia to dominate Anime Trending’s weekly Character of the Week rankings following what many considered one of the anime’s strongest episodes.
Instead, Subaru failed to claim the top Male Character spot, while Emilia also missed out on first place in the Female Character rankings.
The results immediately became a major topic of discussion, with many Re:Zero fans questioning whether the rankings accurately reflected the episode’s reception.
The debate intensified when X user pointed out something unusual:

Anime Trending’s homepage stated that Re:Zero Season 4 had reached Anime of the Week seven times, while Anime Trending’s own weekly posts on X only showed four victories.
Screenshots comparing the two quickly spread throughout the community, leading some fans to speculate that something was wrong with the rankings.
The discussion became even louder because several fans questioned why characters like Will and Mahiru ranked above Subaru and Emilia after Episode 11, arguing that their performances during the week didn’t generate nearly the same level of discussion.
As the screenshots continued circulating, Anime Trending founder Deriu-kun responded to the claims.

According to him, the homepage section displaying “Times at #1” is updated manually rather than automatically connected to the ranking database. He explained that the mismatch was simply a human error caused during a manual update and was unrelated to the website’s voting system.
The homepage was later corrected.
The Debate Continues
While many fans accepted the explanation regarding the homepage discrepancy, discussion surrounding the Character of the Week rankings continued.
Some believe Subaru and Emilia deserved to top the rankings after Episode 11, while others defended the published results, pointing out that Anime Trending’s charts are ultimately determined by community votes.
As of writing, there is no evidence that Anime Trending manipulated vote counts or ranking results. The only issue officially acknowledged by the platform was the manually updated homepage counter.
Regardless of where fans stand, one thing is certain: Re:Zero has dominated anime community conversations throughout the week. Between Episode 11’s record-breaking reception, the MyAnimeList rating debate, and the Anime Trending discussions, the series has once again proven just how passionate and divided its fanbase can be.
