TBS Television’s anime division has reported a significant improvement in its financial performance for the six months ended September 2026, with revenue increasing 37.9% year-on-year to ¥2.246 billion. More notably, the division returned to positive gross profit, recording ¥1.175 billion, compared with a gross loss of ¥442 million during the same period last year.
According to the company’s interim financial results reported on November 6, strong overseas streaming performance from anime titles including The Ramparts of Ice (Koori no Jouheki) contributed to the revenue increase.
TBS also credited improvements in how production costs for terrestrial television anime were allocated, which helped improve the division’s profitability.

The Ramparts of Ice Contributes to TBS Anime Revenue Growth
One of the factors behind the anime division’s improved performance was the strong overseas streaming performance of The Ramparts of Ice and other titles.
The series, based on the manga by Kocha Agasawa, was part of TBS’s anime lineup in 2026. Its performance in overseas distribution contributed to secondary-use revenue, helping the broadcaster expand its anime-related sales.
TBS also pointed to the improved allocation of expenses associated with producing anime for terrestrial television broadcasts. This adjustment contributed to the recovery in gross profit alongside the increase in revenue.
The results highlight the importance of overseas distribution and production cost management in the financial performance of television anime businesses.
TBS Anime Division’s Revenue and Gross Profit Improve
The six-month results show a substantial recovery compared with the previous financial year’s first half.
| Financial metric | First half of FY2026 | First half of FY2027 |
|---|---|---|
| Revenue | Approximately ¥1.628 billion | ¥2.246 billion |
| Gross profit | -¥442 million | ¥1.175 billion |
| Revenue growth | — | +37.9% year-on-year |

The figures show that TBS Television’s anime division not only expanded its revenue but also reversed the gross loss recorded in the previous year’s corresponding period.
It is worth noting that the reported ¥1.175 billion represents gross profit, not operating profit or net profit.
TBS’s latest results point to improving financial performance in its anime business, with overseas streaming revenue and more appropriate production cost allocation contributing to the turnaround.
