Japan is getting a new anime awards ceremony. The Nippon Anime Awards (Also Known As Japan Anime Awards) has officially been announced, with its inaugural event scheduled for November 21, 2027, at SGC Hall Ariake in Tokyo. The initiative aims to recognise the people behind Japanese animation, celebrate their creative contributions, and create new opportunities for the industry’s next generation.
The announcement was made on November 2 during the main event of TOKYO ANIME NEXT, an anime industry event held at Tokyo Tatemono Brillia HALL in Ikebukuro. The new awards programme is being organised by the Association of Japanese Animations (AJA), with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government participating as a co-host.
The awards will be built around the concept “Move a Frame. Move Hearts. Move the World.“, highlighting the creative professionals whose work brings animated stories to life and helps Japanese animation reach audiences worldwide.
Nippon Anime Awards to Celebrate the People Behind Animation
According to the announcement, the Nippon Anime Awards aims to recognise not only the animated works themselves but also the people working behind them who contribute to the industry’s development.
The initiative is described as an awards programme that celebrates the individuals shaping the world through animation while creating opportunities for the future of the industry.

Alongside the awards ceremony, the organisers plan to collaborate with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government on initiatives designed to create new business opportunities within the anime industry and develop talent for the next generation.
These programmes will aim to support the continued development of anime culture while providing new opportunities for people who will eventually lead the industry.
Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike Expresses Support for the New Awards
The announcement stage featured Kazuko Ishikawa, Chairperson of the Association of Japanese Animations, who introduced the concept behind the Nippon Anime Awards.
Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike also sent a message expressing the metropolitan government’s continued support for Japanese animation and the people working within the industry.
She stated:
“The Tokyo Metropolitan Government will continue to strongly support anime and everyone involved in creating it.”
Following the message, Ishikawa expressed her hopes for the initiative, emphasising the importance of taking Japanese animation’s appeal and possibilities to an even wider international audience.
She said:
“We hope to create a future together with all of you, further expanding the appeal and possibilities of anime to the world.”
The organisers intend for the new awards to become more than an occasion for recognising successful productions, with a broader focus on the people and talent responsible for shaping the industry.
