Anime fans have a new mystery on their hands. Two of the industry’s most recognizable studios, Sunrise and SHAFT, have officially launched a teaser campaign for an upcoming anime project. While the title remains a secret for now, the collaboration alone has already generated significant excitement across the anime community.
A dedicated X (formerly Twitter) account, @sunrise_shaft, recently appeared online and has been sharing cryptic teaser visuals and countdown posts.
The account’s bio and description of every tweet confirms that a new anime project will be revealed on June 23 at 24:30 JST (June 24 in Japan), but no additional details regarding the story, staff, cast, or source material have been revealed.
The partnership is particularly noteworthy because Sunrise and SHAFT are known for very different creative identities. Sunrise has built its reputation through major franchises and large-scale productions, while SHAFT has earned praise for its distinctive visual direction and experimental storytelling techniques. The idea of both studios working together has naturally sparked curiosity among anime fans.
As the countdown continues, speculation has begun spreading across social media. One theory currently gaining traction in the community suggests that the mystery project could be an anime adaptation of the manga, Fool Night, based on the original dystopian × human drama manga by Kasumi Yasuda. Also, it is being speculated that this series is gonna be streaming exclusively on Netflix in 2026 this year. While fans have pointed to various clues found in the teaser materials, neither Sunrise nor SHAFT has confirmed any connection to the series at the time of writing.
Because so little information has been officially released, fans have started analyzing every teaser image and post in search of hints about the project’s identity. Whether the collaboration turns out to be an original anime or an adaptation of an existing work, expectations are already high given the studios involved.
