Animal is a Crime – Drama film written directed & edited by Sandeep Reddy Vanga and starring Ranbir Kapoor as R….. we came to a direct point, this article is a case study of this year’s most polarizing film Animal.
There are a lot of discos around the film some find it toxic and some find it’s just like a film. And I love the film. Whether you like it or not, but first watch a film and then make your opinion.

The case study of Sandeep sir’s film animal
The film is a three-and-a-half-hour character study of a protagonist, “How a son becomes a Criminal to take revenge of his father.” The film feels more like a modern-day epic like Mahabharata more of a gangster drama.
There is so much to talk about But I would like to talk about what I like about it. And there are so many things I like.
1. Non-conventional Storytelling:
Sandeep Reddy Vanga broke so many clichéd of commercial cinema. Like the jija killing scene in the palace, we saw the killing first then we saw the reason behind it.
After the interval action set piece they show the next 40-45 minutes for Ranvijay’s character recovery from the enjury and the consequences of that fight on him physically and mentally.
It feels refreshing to see it. It creates shock value for the audience and keeps them hooked on the film.
Another scene where we see the most important and biggest action set piece in the middle of the film, it’s very rare in Indian films, also our protagonist’s name is revealed at the exact interval point because almost half of the film we saw him as a son of Balbir Singh.
2. Depiction of Violence:
The film is promoted as a Violent film. And some people feel there is not much bloodshed as we compared with world cinema (especially Korean). But the film is Violent not only ’cause of the bloodbath but psychological also. The psyche of a character the decisions he makes, and the world of Animal is violent itself.
The framing of the violence is so beautiful it shows you just the impact of Violence and saves the most brutal scene until the climax throat cutting scene and that’s why that scene hit so hard.
3. Music:
There are some scenes that feel like homage to other films like there are so many references of The Godfather the long 60th birthday party scene like the wedding scene in The Godfather, or a car scene.
Also, there are AR Rahman and Mani Ratnam references where Roja’s song for Ranbir’s entry or Rashmika’s name is Geetanjali In the name of Mani Ratnam’s movie.
Sandeep Sir’s writing is equally effective like his direction. He uses Chekhov’s gun to set up the body double concept at the start with young Ranvijay and it executes twice in the film. Also, the entry of Abrar Haque (Bobby Deol) uses a split screen to introduce him.
When Ranvijay is weak and tired he uses sign language and smokes cigarettes and then opens the screen with Bobby smoking cigarettes full of happiness and confidence. It shows the power dynamic in a very new way. Ranbir walking naked in the garden after his successful heart transplant shows his re-born like a newborn baby. Even in the climax both Ranvijay and Abrar fight with their bare hands like animals. The film justified its title “Animal“./
Sandeep wrote such long scenes with very few cuts ( except one action scene feels choppy ) that helped actors to bloom out their performance.
Some people ask why the police do not exist in this world so In my observation, It entirely happens in Balbir Singh’s empire; even the school and hotel are owned by them. Even when we see the outside world (take the Kashmir-like place, for example), there are hardly any (normal) people and even if they exist, they have zero prominence. There are even lyrics in Arjan Vailly:
“Sher Jeha Rohb Jatt Da,
Ni Thalle Rakhda Police Sarkaari“
The meaning is:
“The Lion like Rohb Jatt,
the police official who keeps it down”
and I think it’s enough to clear right.
And talk about performances then every single actor gives their best. Ranbir Kapoor Sorry Superstar Ranbir Kapoor gave his everything to the role and Rashmika Mandana, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, and every single actor feel characters.
Also, shout out to the production designer for the production design of the film it gives richness to the film and there are so many details in frames.
This has happened very rarely to me when I would like to share my thoughts about any movie. And Animal is one of those films this year because in today’s times, lots of filmmakers’ work feels very boring, with commercial crashgabs or trying to get critical acclaim and awards sinking but Animals feels a very fresh and enjoyable experience through its three and half hour running time.
