More than four years after a live-action adaptation was first announced, Summer Time Rendering has finally received a major update. The official X account for the series has confirmed that the live-action film will premiere in 2027, with Ken Ninomiya attached as director.
The announcement was made on July 22, the same date on which the events of the original story begin, making the reveal especially meaningful for longtime fans.

The official announcement reads:
“Breaking News! The live-action Summer Time Rendering movie is officially coming in 2027! Directed by Ken Ninomiya! We’ll continue sharing more updates here on X. We’re finally able to announce it on July 22—the day the story begins. Please look forward to it!”
The live-action adaptation was originally announced alongside the anime project in 2021. While the TV anime premiered in 2022, the film remained largely silent until this latest update.
Ken Ninomiya to Direct
The film will be directed by Ken Ninomiya, known for directing live-action films including Chiwawa-chan, Tonkatsu DJ Agetarou, The Limit of Sleeping Beauty, and The Midnight Maiden War.
At the time of writing, no cast members or additional production staff have been announced.
The official X account confirmed that more information about the project will be revealed in future updates.
A Beloved Supernatural Mystery Returns
Written and illustrated by Yasuki Tanaka, Summer Time Rendering was serialized on Shonen Jump+ from 2017 to 2021.
Set on the small island of Hitogashima in Wakayama Prefecture, the story follows Shinpei Ajiro, who returns home after the death of his childhood friend Ushio Kofune. What begins as a funeral soon unravels into a supernatural mystery involving mysterious “Shadows,” time loops, and a desperate fight to change fate.
The manga received a 25-episode TV anime adaptation in 2022, which was praised for faithfully adapting the complete story.
With the live-action film now officially scheduled for 2027, fans can finally look forward to seeing the suspense thriller make its long-awaited jump to the big screen.
