Kohei Horikoshi, the creator of My Hero Academia, is officially returning to Weekly Shonen Jump with his first new manga since the hit superhero series concluded in August 2025.
Shueisha announced that Horikoshi’s brand-new one-shot, Warawanaide yo, Shijima-san (Don’t Laugh, Shijima-san), will debut in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #37/38, releasing on August 10. The manga is being described as a “boy-meets-girl horror” story and will be published as a 61-page center-color one-shot.
Horikoshi Returns One Year After My Hero Academia Ended
The upcoming one-shot marks Horikoshi’s first return to Weekly Shonen Jump since My Hero Academia ended in August 2025 after more than a decade of serialization.
While Shueisha has yet to reveal the story’s plot, the publisher has described Warawanaide yo, Shijima-san as a boy-meets-girl horror, suggesting a blend of supernatural horror and character-driven storytelling. Alongside the announcement, a promotional color illustration for the one-shot has also been released.
The manga will span 61 pages and receive a center color feature in the magazine.
Weekly Shonen Jump Also Celebrates KochiKame’s 50th Anniversary
The combined Issue #37/38 will also commemorate the 50th anniversary of Osamu Akimoto’s KochiKame (Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kōen-mae Hashutsujo).
As part of the celebration, the magazine will feature a special KochiKame article supervised by horror novelist Setsuji, known for works such as About a Certain Place in the Kinki Region and The Mouth Survey.
Readers will also receive an exclusive illustrated card featuring brand-new artwork drawn by Akimoto as a special bonus included with the issue.
A Highly Anticipated Return for Horikoshi
Although only limited details about Warawanaide yo, Shijima-san have been revealed, the announcement marks Kohei Horikoshi’s first published manga since concluding My Hero Academia, making it one of the biggest highlights of the upcoming Weekly Shonen Jump issue.
