Yokoso Scooby-Doo! Takes Scooby and Shaggy to Japan
Unlike the usual mystery-solving adventures involving haunted mansions and supposedly supernatural criminals, Yokoso Scooby-Doo! will introduce a Japanese setting filled with mythical creatures inspired by local folklore.
According to the official synopsis, Scooby-Doo and Shaggy travel to Japan for the ultimate foodie adventure. However, things quickly go wrong when the duo accidentally unleash hundreds of mythical monsters that begin causing trouble throughout the country.
To restore order, they receive help from several new characters, including:
- Daisuke-Doo: Scooby-Doo’s uncle.
- Yume: A magical girl who joins the adventure.
- Takumi: A gadget expert who helps the group.
Together, the characters embark on a new mystery involving monster chasing, Japanese folklore, and plenty of the usual Scooby-Doo chaos.
The series will combine the franchise’s familiar mystery-comedy formula with Japanese anime influences, giving the iconic characters a new setting and introducing audiences to creatures inspired by Japanese mythology.
OLM and Warner Bros. Animation Team Up for Scooby-Doo Anime
The upcoming series is being produced by Warner Bros. Animation, with OLM providing production services in Japan.
OLM is one of Japan’s established animation studios, best known internationally for producing the long-running Pokémon anime franchise. Its other notable projects include The Apothecary Diaries, ODDTAXI, and the 1997 adaptation of Berserk.
The anime will be directed by Itsuro Kawasaki, known for his work on The Yakuza’s Guide to Babysitting and Arc the Lad. Francisco Paredes will serve as co-producer.
The collaboration brings together Warner Bros. Animation’s long-running Scooby-Doo franchise and OLM’s experience in Japanese animation production.
Warner Bros. Animation president Sam Register also welcomed the collaboration, expressing excitement about introducing the franchise’s first original anime series alongside the artists at OLM.

Matthew Lillard and Frank Welker Return as Shaggy and Scooby-Doo
One of the most exciting details for longtime fans is the return of two familiar performers.
Frank Welker will voice Scooby-Doo, continuing his long association with the franchise. Welker originally joined Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! in 1969 as Fred Jones and has voiced Scooby-Doo for more than two decades.
Meanwhile, Matthew Lillard will return as Shaggy Rogers. Lillard famously portrayed Shaggy in the live-action Scooby-Doo films and has continued voicing the character in animated productions.
Their return gives the anime a connection to the franchise’s earlier adaptations while introducing a completely different visual and storytelling approach.
Where to Watch Yokoso Scooby-Doo!
Yokoso Scooby-Doo! will be available exclusively on Tubi in North America, while Cartoon Network will handle its international availability.
Tubi announced the project as a new Tubi Original in May 2026. Although industry listings currently point towards a 2027 premiere, the streaming service has yet to announce a specific release date or episode count.
Further details about the new characters, additional voice cast members, and the premiere schedule are also yet to be revealed.
