The announcement was made on October 23, 2026, through the franchise’s official channels, accompanied by a new visual revealing that production on another animated adaptation of Shirow Masamune’s cyberpunk manga has begun.
Currently carrying the working title The Ghost in the Shell, the new project has not yet revealed its release date, format, cast or staff. However, Science SARU’s return marks another major development for the long-running science-fiction franchise.

The project will be animated by Science SARU, the same studio that produced the 2026 TV anime THE GHOST IN THE SHELL.
The new announcement visual was unveiled alongside the production news, giving fans their first look at the newly announced project:

The announcement was reportedly revealed as a surprise through flyers distributed to attendees at a press preview for OPEN HOUSE, a public event taking place at DOVER STREET MARKET GINZA in Tokyo on October 24, 2026.
The event also features a collaboration between the apparel project GEEKS RULE and the 2026 THE GHOST IN THE SHELL anime, including a signing session with director Mokochan to commemorate the collaboration.
