The next Doraemon movie has officially been announced. Doraemon The Movie 2027: Nobita’s Steam-Powered Time Machine (Japanese Name: Eiga Doraemon: Nobita no Jōki Jikansha) will premiere in Spring 2027, with a super teaser trailer and teaser visual released alongside the announcement.
The film marks the 46th installment in the long-running Doraemon movie series and will feature a completely original story set in 19th-century London, England.
Unlike previous adventures set in Antarctica, treasure islands, the Moon, prehistoric worlds, outer space, and floating utopias, the latest film transports Doraemon, Nobita, and their friends from 21st-century Japan to 19th-century London.
The official synopsis describes the film as a completely original story where the group embarks on a grand adventure across time, centered around the mysterious concept of “time.”
The newly released super teaser opens with the narration:
“Time… Something that flows equally for everyone.”
“Because time flows, there is a future.”
It then features one of Doraemon’s memorable lines from the original series:
“The future can change so easily with just the slightest trigger.”
The teaser also showcases sketches of familiar Doraemon gadgets, including the Time Machine and Dress-Up Camera, before unveiling the film’s key invention, the Steam-Powered Time Machine.
The trailer concludes with Doraemon dressed in a 19th-century outfit, complete with a silk hat and cape, teasing the beginning of the new adventure.
A new teaser visual was also unveiled alongside the announcement.
The artwork depicts Doraemon happily waving while riding the Steam-Powered Time Machine, surrounded by giant gears in a nostalgic steampunk-inspired setting that hints at a journey connecting the past and the future.
First-Time Movie Staff Join the Franchise
The film will be directed by Ruchio Moriyama, who has worked on the Doraemon television anime since 2020, directing numerous episodes. This marks his first participation in the Doraemon movie series.
Commenting on the project, Moriyama said:
“This film is an adventure movie where Doraemon and his friends board the Steam-Powered Time Machine and set off on a slightly mysterious journey through time, filled with dreams and romance.”
“The Steam-Powered Time Machine races through an exciting story of steam and time. As I make this film, I find myself traveling back to the excitement and wonder I felt as a child when I first read and watched the Doraemon long stories.”
“In Spring 2027, I hope everyone will board the Steam-Powered Time Machine together with Doraemon and his friends and set off on a dream-filled journey through time.”
The screenplay is written by Makoto Ueda, the head of the theater company Europe Kikaku, known for time- and science fiction-themed works such as Summer Time Machine Blues and Go Find a Psychic! (Magare! Spoon). While he previously wrote the 2024 Doraemon Birthday Special, “Nobita and the Greek Cake Legend,” this marks his first Doraemon feature film.
Ueda shared:
“I can’t believe I get to go on a journey through time with Doraemon and his friends!”
“Since I had the chance, I decided to take everyone to a place I’ve always wanted to visit—19th-century London. It’s the birthplace of time, where steam engines flourished and, in a sense, where the Time Machine itself was born.”

About Doraemon
Doraemon is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Fujiko F. Fujio. The manga first began serialization in 1969, with its chapters later collected into 45 tankōbon volumes by Shogakukan between 1974 and 1996. With over 300 million copies of the manga in circulation worldwide as of 2024, Doraemon is one of the best-selling manga series of all time. The franchise has received numerous honors throughout its history, including the Japan Cartoonists Association Award, the Shogakukan Manga Award, and the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize. In 2008, Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also appointed Doraemon as the country’s first official Anime Ambassador, recognizing the character as one of Japan’s most iconic cultural symbols.
