After entertaining millions of Indian fans on television for more than two decades, Doraemon is finally getting the nationwide theatrical release fans have waited years for.
TV Asahi and PVR INOX Pictures have officially announced that Doraemon the Movie: New Nobita and the Castle of the Undersea Devil will release across India on October 2, 2026 in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.
While Doraemon movies have aired countless times on Indian television over the years, this marks the first time the franchise will receive a major nationwide theatrical release in the country, making it a historic moment for one of India’s most recognizable anime franchises.
However, there’s an interesting twist that longtime fans may not know.
Despite being marketed as a brand-new Doraemon movie, this isn’t an original story. The film is actually a modern remake of the classic 1983 Doraemon movie, bringing one of the franchise’s most beloved underwater adventures back with completely updated visuals, animation, and production.
The upcoming film, Doraemon the Movie: New Nobita and the Castle of the Undersea Devil (Japanese Name: Eiga Doraemon: Shin Nobita no Kaitei Kigan-jō), revisits the story of the original Doraemon: Nobita and the Castle of the Undersea Devil, introducing a new generation to one of Doraemon’s most memorable adventures while giving longtime fans a nostalgic return to the underwater kingdom.
The movie follows Doraemon, Nobita, Shizuka, Gian, and Suneo as they embark on an underwater expedition using Doraemon’s futuristic gadgets.
