The upcoming anime film SEKIRO: NO DEFEAT, based on FromSoftware’s critically acclaimed action game Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, has released a brand-new theatrical trailer alongside its official introduction and story details.
The anime film is scheduled to premiere in Japanese cinemas on September 4, 2026, where it will screen for a limited three-week theatrical run.
The newly released theatrical trailer offers another glimpse at the film’s stunning hand-drawn animation while showcasing several iconic moments from the original game.
Unlike many modern game adaptations that rely heavily on CGI, SEKIRO: NO DEFEAT is being produced as a fully hand-drawn 2D animated feature film.
Story Synopsis Revealed
The newly released synopsis offers a closer look at the anime’s adaptation of Sekiro’s emotional journey.
Set during Japan’s Sengoku period, beyond a snow-covered mountain pass lies the land of Ashina. There, a young orphan known as Wolf (Sekiro / Ookami) is rescued from the battlefield and trained as a master shinobi.
Wolf serves Kuro, the last descendant of a special bloodline known as the Dragon’s Heritage, a power capable of granting immortality. As the warriors of Ashina pursue Kuro to obtain this extraordinary blood, Wolf and his young master are forced to flee.
However, they soon discover that the Dragon’s Heritage comes with a terrible price. Every resurrection spreads Dragonrot, a deadly disease that slowly claims innocent lives.
Determined to stop the suffering, Kuro resolves to sever the Dragon’s Heritage, even if it costs him his own life. Upon learning of Kuro’s hidden resolve, Wolf embarks alone on a desperate battle against fate itself in an attempt to change his master’s destiny.
