Barak AnimeCon made history on November 23rd, 2025, as the first-ever anime convention in the Barak Valley, Silchar, Assam. Organised by Barak Valley Anime Community (BVAC) in collaboration with Barak Events and sponsored by Sixth Sense, this groundbreaking event attracted over 350 attendees to Subharambha Banquet Hall in Silchar, Cachar
The Barak AnimeCon wasn’t your typical anime convention; it was a cultural milestone that combined anime, manga, and cosplay with career guidance, educational workshops and cultural Exchange. This anime convention in Assam brought together anime enthusiasts from across Northeast India, including members from the Tripura Anime Club (TAC)
Key Highlights of Barak Animecon Silchar
Japan Foundation New Delhi Presence
One of the most significant attractions of Barak Anime Con was the presence of Japan Foundation New Delhi (JFND), all the way from the capital of India, New Delhi. Among the distinguished guests, Miss Kurumi Otake (Art and Cultural Director, JFND) and Kyoko Takemoto Sensei (Japanese Language Advisor, JFND) attended the event to spread Japanese Culture and Tradition at Barak AnimeCon.
Educational Sessions and Career Guidance
Barak AnimeCon distinguished itself by offering career-focused content alongside entertainment. Some of the major highlights of the event included a comprehensive session led by Kyoko Takemoto Sensei, which covered career prospects and job opportunities in Japan for Indian youth. The Japan Foundation provided free materials and sessions regarding their complimentary course “IRADORI Free Japanese Language Course“, through which participants can receive guidance and teaching tailored to their desired career paths in Japan. Information about travel and study opportunities in Japan through the Chief Minister’s flight scheme was also shared.

Cultural Experiences
The Japan Foundation provided an unforgettable experience to the attendees of Barak AnimeCon to experience one of Japan’s most popular traditional outfit “Yukata”, along with Yukata Try ons attendee of Barak AnimeCon had the opportunity to register for the Japan Foundation’s Japanese film streaming site, granting them access to a wide variety of Japanese Films and Dramas

Cosplay Workshop and Competition
A hands-on cosplay workshop was conducted byLeo, one of the renowned cosplayers from Guwahati. The workshop was specially designed for young and new cosplayers.
The Cosplay competition featured multiple cosplayers competing against each other for a prize pool of ₹20,000. The competition was judged by Miss Kurumi Otake (JFND Director) and Miss Zubeni Lily (renowned cosplayer from Nagaland). The competition had three categories: Grand Winner, Great Performance, and Great Cosplay Craft. The winner of the Grand Winner category was Leeyo, who cosplayed Sabre “onimaru” Skin from Mobile Legends, Ankita Cosplayed as Furina from Genshin Impact and won the Great Performance Category, and Abhijit cosplayed as “Azir” from League of Legends, winning the Great Craft Category.

Stalls and Activity Zones
Barak AnimeCon featured a variety of interactive engagement areas designed to give attendees an authentic convention experience. The Manga Cafe offered a relaxed space for manga reading and discussions, while the Gaming Corner hosted video game tournaments alongside casual play. Fans could explore themed merchandise at the Pokémon Centre Stall, Gundam Stall, and Beyblade Stall, which showcased collectables, model kits, and competitive accessories. All major performances and competitions were held at the Grand Stage, serving as the centre of attention and excitement throughout the event.

In addition to its diverse engagement zones, Barak AnimeCon also hosted interactive sessions that kept audiences actively involved throughout the event. These included anime opening and ending song recognition contests as well as discussion panels focused on the highly anticipated Fall 2025 anime lineup. Participants who emerged victorious were rewarded with authentic Chainsaw Man merchandise, officially issued by the Crunchyroll team, adding an extra layer of excitement and exclusivity to the experience.

Barak Animecon was a huge step made by the Barak Valley anime community to spread awareness about the Japanese culture and tradition, along with the career opportunities in Japan, followed by art and animation sessions to help the youths carve out and find their own paths on which they could benefit in the future from this anime culture in Assam.
