Bengaluru, 16th October 2024 — The Media & Entertainment Association of India (MEAI), in collaboration with the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, is proud to announce WAM! (WAVES Anime & Manga Contest).
WAM! is an integral part of WAVES (World Audio Visual Entertainment Summit), India’s largest summit for the AVGC-XR and Media and entertainment sectors, scheduled to take place from February 5-9, 2025, in Delhi. The competition aims to discover and nurture the best talents from India’s anime, manga, and webtoon communities, covering 11 cities and drawing an expected participation of over 6,600 competitors.
With prizes totalling over INR 10 Lakhs, WAM! offers exciting opportunities for participants at state-level competitions.
The cash prizes for state-level winners are as follows:
• INR 5,000 for Manga (Student)
• INR 5,000 for Manga (Professional)
• INR 5,000 for Webtoon (Student)
• INR 5,000 for Webtoon (Professional)
• INR 10,000 for Anime (Student Team)
• INR 10,000 for Anime (Professional Team)
In addition to the cash prizes, winners in each category will also receive a pen tablet to support their creative work. They will also receive a special goodie box from Vaibhavi Studios, featuring original merchandise from TRIO—India’s first anime.
Additional rewards include:
• INR 10,000 cash prize for the Cosplay competition
• INR 10,000 cash prize for other activities, including voice acting and musical performances.
Prize amounts may increase, and additional prizes may be introduced as more support is secured.
On a national level, WAM! winners will be awarded an all-expenses-paid trip to Anime Japan, offering them a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to connect with the global anime community.
About WAM!
WAM! offers a unique opportunity for Indian creators to produce localized versions of popular Japanese art styles, catering to both domestic and international audiences. By providing substantial marketing support and opportunities for global recognition, the contest aims to establish a strong platform for creative expression in manga and anime.
WAM! features three categories, each offering a unique platform for creative expression:
- Participation Verticals
- Manga (Japanese style comics)- Individual Participation for Student and Professional Category
- Webtoon (Vertical comics for digital mediums) – Individual Participation for Student and Professional Category
- Anime (Japanese style animation) – Team (of upto people) Participation for Student and ProfessionalCategory
- Format & Delivery – script provided on the spot. Participants to generate:
- Manga (Student, Individual) – pages of manga with at least panels each, ink and color (physical/digital)
- Manga (Professional, Individual) – pages of manga with at least panels each, ink and color (physical/digital)
- Webtoon (Student, Individual): panels with ink and colour
- Webtoon (Professional, Individual): panels with ink and colour.
- Anime (Student, Teams) – seconds of anime as per the provided script
- Anime (Professional, Teams) – seconds of anime as per the provided script
