On 18 January 2024, the official X account of Avex Pictures revealed that Bones’ upcoming anime “The Magical Girl and the Evil Lieutenant Used to Be Archenemies” (Japanese Name: Katsute Mahou Shoujo to Aku wa Tekitai shiteita., Synonym: Mahoaku) which is based on the original work by Kokoa Fujiwara revealed that this anime is set to release in July 2024. New Key Visual and the main voice-acting cast have also been announced!

The official X account of Avex Pictures released the brand new key visual for this upcoming series:
The teaser visual, which is reminiscent of the cover of the first volume of the original manga which captures the moment when Mira and Byakuya meet. The anime’s official website is also distributing smartphone wallpapers using the teaser visual.

Animation Studio Bones will animate this series. Oohashi Akiyo will direct this anime and Iizuka Haruko will provide the character designs for this anime. Ayana Yuniko is handling the script and will also do the series composition.

In 2015, Nakahara Mai and Ono Yuuki also appeared on the Drama CD of this Manga. They are making a comeback on this series after 9 years.

I’m Mai Nakahara, who plays Byakuya. Finally after 9 years, it is made into an anime! And I’m very happy to be able to play Byakuya-chan once again! I re-read the original story for the first time after a while when I was doing the dubbing, and it’s a really interesting work that still retains the feeling I had back then. It was serialized in September 2013 in Square Enix’s Monthly Gangan Joker magazine. This manga has total of 3 volumes. This manga is receiving an anime adaptation produced by Bones in July 2024.
