The Apothecary Diaries director Norihiro Naganuma has officially announced his next anime project, and it’s unlike anything fans expected.
The new original anime, titled Jurassic Shadows (Japanese Name: Ryūgeshō no Shinobi), has been officially announced alongside its first concept visual and project promotional video.
The series is being animated by Studio CANNON CODE, with no release date announced at the time of writing.
First PV and Key Visual Revealed
The newly released project PV gives fans a first look at the anime’s unique world, featuring ninjas battling dinosaurs across modern-day Tokyo using mysterious powers awakened through ancient pigments.
The project is especially notable because many of the core staff members previously worked on The Apothecary Diaries, reuniting for this brand-new original anime.

Jurassic Shadows (Japanese Name: Ryūgeshō no Shinobi) is an original anime project directed by Norihiro Naganuma, best known for directing The Apothecary Diaries.
The story takes place in Tokyo in 2029, where dinosaurs believed to have gone extinct millions of years ago secretly survived by passing their DNA through humanity over countless generations. Hidden among ordinary people, these dinosaurs prey on humans while living unnoticed within society.
Standing against them is a secret organization of ninjas who wield a mysterious pigment known as Ryugesho. By applying this ancient pigment, they awaken dinosaur-like abilities within themselves to battle the creatures threatening humanity.
Blending dinosaurs, ninjas, modern Tokyo, and the unique concept of Ryugesho (“Dragon Makeup”), the series promises a stylish action experience unlike anything currently in anime. The newly released PV showcases massive dinosaur attacks, fast-paced ninja battles, and cinematic action directed by Naganuma in what marks his first full-scale battle action anime.
