Beyblade, the spinning top game that captured the hearts of millions since its inception in 1999, is making waves once again. With its creators envisioning it as a potential Olympic sport, Beyblade is not just a nostalgic pastime but a competitive activity with global appeal.
Kenji Horikoshi, one of the key designers behind Beyblade, has expressed a unique vision for the game while speaking to Metro. He sees Beyblade as a “gear-assisted” sport, akin to golf or skateboarding. While the idea of Beyblade becoming an Olympic sport has often been mentioned in jest, there is genuine hope among its creators that this dream could one day become a reality.
“Our mission here is to make sure we continue innovating and as the years progress, even without it being an Olympic sport, we just want to make sure people globally can have a chance to really appreciate and play with each other and have that competitive feel,” Horikoshi himself said.
Since its launch, Beyblade has maintained a strong presence in the toy industry. Its popularity is evident through national tournaments and a dedicated competitive scene. The game has evolved, with new series and toy gimmicks keeping it fresh and exciting for both new and old fans.
