Hunter x Hunter creator Yoshihiro Togashi has announced that he will stop accepting work that comes with deadlines, saying he wants to prioritize creating his own manga after experiencing ongoing physical and mental health difficulties.
Togashi shared the update on X, explaining that he will complete the commissions he has already accepted before refusing future deadline-based requests
Togashi wrote:
“Due to a combination of physical and mental health issues, I have decided that once I finish the commissions I am currently working on, I will decline all future requests for work that have deadlines and prioritize creating my own manuscripts. I will announce it here again when I resume working on my manuscript.”
The statement makes it clear that Togashi is changing how he handles outside work so that he can dedicate more time and energy to his own manga.
He did not provide further details about the specific health issues he is currently dealing with.
Hunter x Hunter Fans React To Togashi’s Announcement
The announcement quickly drew attention from Hunter x Hunter fans, many of whom welcomed Togashi’s decision to put his own work and well-being first.
Fans have also expressed hope that reducing outside commitments will give the manga creator more time to work on Hunter x Hunter without the additional pressure of deadline-based commissions.
Togashi’s latest statement does not announce a new publication date for Hunter x Hunter, however. He only said that he intends to prioritize his own manuscript and will provide another update when he resumes work on it.
Togashi Has Previously Struggled With Health Issues
Togashi has dealt with health problems throughout the long publication history of Hunter x Hunter, which has resulted in multiple extended hiatuses.
The manga’s publication schedule was eventually changed so that it would no longer follow a regular weekly serialization format, allowing Togashi to work according to his health and production situation.
His latest announcement appears to be another step toward reducing his workload outside of his own manga.
For now, Togashi has not revealed when new Hunter x Hunter chapters will return. Instead, fans will have to wait for his next announcement regarding the progress of his manuscript.
