The legendary The Prince of Tennis manga series is officially coming to an end.
It has been announced that The New Prince of Tennis (Shin Tennis no Ouji-sama) will publish its final chapter in the September 2026 issue of Jump SQ., scheduled for release on August 4, 2026. With the conclusion of the sequel, The Prince of Tennis franchise will officially end its manga serialization after an incredible 27-year run.
The announcement was made in the latest issue of Jump SQ., where the preview for the next chapter teases:
“The turbulent U-17 World Cup comes to an end. What awaits the Princes after the battle…? Grand Final Chapter!!”
The final chapter will also feature a center color page to commemorate the conclusion of the long-running series.

A 27-Year Journey Comes to an End
Created by Takeshi Konomi, The Prince of Tennis first began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1999 and ran until 2008.
The series follows tennis prodigy Ryoma Echizen, who joins Seishun Academy’s tennis club and competes against talented rivals while growing both as a player and as a person.
Following the original manga’s conclusion, Konomi launched its sequel, The New Prince of Tennis, in Jump SQ. in 2009. The sequel shifted the story to the prestigious U-17 World Cup, where Ryoma and Japan’s strongest young players compete against elite teams from around the world.

Together, the two manga have entertained readers for nearly three decades and have surpassed 60 million copies in circulation worldwide.
Author Previously Teased the Ending
Earlier this year, Takeshi Konomi revealed that the manga was approaching its conclusion.
In March, he shared that only a handful of chapters remained before the final chapter, encouraging fans to experience Ryoma’s last match in real time.
More recently, Konomi posted another update on X, saying he is currently working on the final chapter.
“Working on the final chapter… Unlike when I drew the final chapter of The Prince of Tennis in Weekly Shonen Jump, I’ve been experiencing a strange feeling every day that I’ve never felt before.”
The author accompanied the post with the hashtag:
“Let’s create a path that no one has ever walked before.”
Commemorative Event Planned
To celebrate the conclusion of the franchise, a special event titled “The Prince of Tennis Series Finale Commemorative! Tenipuri Surprise Summit” will be held on July 19 at Tokyo International Forum Hall A.
The event was previously announced as part of the celebrations marking the end of one of Shonen Jump’s most iconic sports manga franchises.
After 27 years, The Prince of Tennis will finally bring Ryoma Echizen’s long journey to a close when the final chapter of The New Prince of Tennis is published on August 4, 2026.
