Japanese publisher Shueisha has officially announced that it will end its publishing agreement with Walt Disney Japan for Marvel character manga adaptations on September 30, 2026.
According to the announcement released on July 1, the agreement covering Marvel character comic adaptations between the two companies will conclude at the end of September. As a result, several Marvel collaboration manga published by Shueisha will gradually go out of print and be removed from digital storefronts.
Physical and Digital Sales to End
Shueisha confirmed that physical manga volumes will only remain available while existing store inventory lasts.
Meanwhile, digital editions will be removed from all ebook platforms at 11:59 PM JST on September 30, 2026. Distribution will begin ending gradually between September 28 and September 30, depending on the digital storefront.
Readers who have already purchased digital versions will still be able to access them after sales end, although new purchases will no longer be possible.
Marvel Manga Affected
The announcement includes several Marvel collaboration titles that will be discontinued, including:
- Marvel × Shonen Jump+ SUPER COLLABORATION
- Secret Reverse
- Spider-Man: Octopus Girl (Volumes 1–4)
- Spider-Man: Kizuna (Volumes 1–4)
- Deadpool: SAMURAI (Volumes 1–4)
Shueisha also encouraged fans who wish to purchase physical editions to do so as soon as possible, noting that availability will depend on remaining stock.
No Reason Behind the Decision
The company did not disclose why the licensing agreement is ending and simply apologized for any inconvenience caused to readers.
At the time of writing, neither Shueisha nor Walt Disney Japan has announced whether another publisher will take over Marvel manga publishing in Japan after the agreement expires.
