Yoshihiro Togashi’s legendary manga Hunter × Hunter has reached a historic milestone. Shueisha has announced that the series has officially surpassed 100 million copies in circulation worldwide (including digital editions) with the release of Volume 39, which is scheduled to launch in Japan on July 3, 2026.

With this achievement, Hunter × Hunter becomes only the 11th manga published by Shueisha to surpass the 100 million copies milestone, joining an elite group that includes KochiKame, Dragon Ball, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Slam Dunk, One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Kingdom, My Hero Academia, and Jujutsu Kaisen.
The announcement comes alongside the publication of the manga’s latest chapter, Chapter 411, which appears in this week’s issue of Weekly Shonen Jump with a center color page. The newest chapter continues the intense Succession Contest aboard the Black Whale, following Kurapika and the various factions competing for the Kakin throne.
To commemorate both the release of Chapter 411 and the 100 million copies milestone, Shueisha has announced several special campaigns for fans.
One of the biggest celebrations is “Shibuya HUNTER Street,” a special event taking place from June 29 through July 5. More than 100 Hunter × Hunter characters have been placed throughout Shibuya as street advertisements. Fans can scan QR codes displayed on each advertisement to unlock the corresponding character on a dedicated campaign website and download exclusive digital content.

Those unable to visit Shibuya can still participate through the official campaign website, where unlocked characters will gradually become available. Fans who share character advertisements or campaign content on X using the designated hashtag will also have a chance to win a special Hunter × Hunter flake sticker set, with 30 winners selected by lottery.
In addition, Shueisha has announced that 340 chapters of Hunter × Hunter will be made available to read for free for a limited time through the Shonen Jump+ app and Zebrack digital manga service.
The free reading campaign will be released in stages, beginning with the Hunter Exam Arc before gradually unlocking Heaven’s Arena, Yorknew City, Greed Island, Chimera Ant, and Election/Alluka arcs throughout July.

Hunter × Hunter originally began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1998 and follows Gon Freecss, a young boy who sets out on a journey to become a Hunter while searching for his father, Ging. Along the way, he forms unforgettable friendships with Killua, Kurapika, and Leorio while facing increasingly dangerous enemies and uncovering the mysteries of the Hunter world.
The manga currently follows the Succession Contest Arc, where Kurapika, the Phantom Troupe, and the princes of the Kakin Empire clash aboard the Black Whale as it sails toward the Dark Continent.
Due to Yoshihiro Togashi’s long-term health issues, Hunter × Hunter has followed an irregular publication schedule in recent years instead of traditional weekly serialization. New chapters are published whenever they are completed, with Chapter 411 marking the latest continuation of the story after Chapter 410.
With more than 100 million copies now in circulation and the story finally continuing once again, Hunter × Hunter continues to cement its place as one of Shueisha’s most successful and influential manga series.
About Hunter × Hunter
Hunter × Hunter is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi. It began serialization in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump in March 1998 and remains one of the magazine’s most celebrated series.
The manga has inspired two television anime adaptations, several OVAs, stage plays, video games, and films. The first anime adaptation aired in 1999 by Nippon Animation, while Madhouse produced a new television anime adaptation in 2011 that adapted the story through the Election Arc.
Hunter × Hunter has received widespread acclaim for its intricate storytelling, strategic battles, memorable characters, and unique power system known as Nen. Despite its irregular release schedule due to the author’s health, the series remains one of the most beloved manga franchises worldwide.
Viz Media publishes the manga in English and describes the story as:
“Hunters are a special breed, dedicated to tracking down treasures, magical beasts, and even other people. But such pursuits require a license, and less than one in a hundred thousand can pass the grueling qualification exam. Those who do pass earn the right to call themselves Hunters.”
