It is announced that Tomoko Yamashita‘s popular manga “Journal With Witch” (Japanese Name: Ikoku Nikki, Synonym: Diary of a Strange Land) will be made into a TV Anime series. Studio Shuka will animate this anime version of Ikoku Nikki. The official X Account and official website for this anime became live for the public and they released the official Announcement trailer and Key Visual for this upcoming anime adaptation:

Both teaser visual and trailer features main characters Kodai Makio and Takumi Asa. We get a glimpse of their life from the trailer and in the visual we can see Kodai working on his laptop and Takumi using her smartphone. Journal With Witch (Japanese Name: Ikoku Nikki, Synonym: Diary of a Strange Land) is a Japanese manga series written and Illustrated by Tomoko Yamashita. It was serialized in June 2017 in Shodensha’s Josei manga magazine Feel Young. There are a total of 11 Volumes in this manga.

This manga was nominated for the 12th Manga Taisho Award and ranked 4th in 2019. In 2020, it was nominated for the 13th Manga Taisho award and ranked 10th.

This series ranked 4th in Takarajimasha’s Kono Manga ga Sugoi! list of best manga of 2019 for female readers. In the same magazine, it ranked 10th on the 2020 list and 5th on the 2024 list.

The series topped Da Vinci magazine‘s 2023 “Book of the Year” list. The series has been nominated for the 28th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize.

This manga received a Live-action film adaptation directed by Natsuki Seta and will be released on June 7, 2024. The anime adaptation of this manga is also announced!

Thirty-five-year-old novelist Makio Koudai never had a good relationship with her older sister Minori, who always berated her for being different. Due to this, Makio is not stricken with grief upon hearing the news that Minori and her husband die in a car crash. But when Makio is asked to identify their bodies, she runs into her 15-year-old niece, Asa Takumi, whom she has not seen in years.

Struggling to process her parents’ death, Makio reassures Asa that her complicated feelings are valid and suggests that the teenager start writing in a diary as a way to cope with the loss. Upon learning that no other relatives wanted to take in Asa, Makio decides to become her guardian despite her lack of experience. In a world full of uncertainty, the novelist and teenager must learn to live with each other while figuring themselves out.
