The 83rd Golden Globes Awards have announced their nominees for Best Animated Motion Picture, and two major titles from the Asian animation industry have secured spots among the finalists: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle and K-Pop Demon Hunters. This year’s category includes six nominees:
- ARCO
- Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle
- ELIO
- K-Pop Demon Hunters
- Little Amélie or the Character of Rain
- Zootopia 2
The recognition marks another significant step in the growing global presence of anime and Asian-driven animated films in mainstream Western award ceremonies.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle is the latest major instalment adapting the final battle arc of Koyoharu Gotouge’s manga. The film features large-scale ensemble combat sequences, expanded visual effects, and high-budget theatrical production, continuing the franchise that has become the second-highest-grossing movie in Japan.
K-Pop Demon Hunters is an action-fantasy animated feature centred around a fictional K-pop idol group who secretly battle supernatural forces while maintaining public careers as performers. Combining Korean pop culture aesthetics, idol-industry themes, and stylized combat, the film has gained international attention for its cross-genre approach and strong audience response across Asian markets.
This year’s nominees highlight a broad representation of global animation, featuring studio films from Hollywood alongside independent and international productions. The category has expanded significantly beyond traditional studio dominance, reflecting shifting audience preferences and increasing worldwide acclaim for non-Western animated storytelling.
The winners will be announced during the Golden Globe Awards ceremony, scheduled to take place in January 2026.
