Sony-owned Aniplex has acquired fellow anime production company EGG FIRM for an undisclosed sum, making EGG FIRM a wholly owned subsidiary of Aniplex.
The acquisition places the production know-how behind major anime titles such as Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation, DanMachi (Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?), Ruri Rocks, and Onimai under Aniplex’s corporate structure.

EGG FIRM to Continue Operating Independently
EGG FIRM confirmed that the acquisition will not affect its day-to-day business operations. Company president Nobuhiro Osawa will remain in his current role following the deal.
According to EGG FIRM, the acquisition is intended to support the long-term development of the anime industry, with both companies aiming to strengthen collaboration and make better use of shared production resources.
The studio has previously worked closely with Aniplex, including producing and planning Aniplex-led titles in partnership with Straight Edge. These include multiple Sword Art Online projects such as Gun Gale Online, Alicization, and Progressive.
Industry Consolidation Continues
The acquisition is part of a broader trend of consolidation within the anime industry. Entertainment journalist Murata Taisuke noted that the deal could have wider implications depending on the ownership structure of Studio Bind.
Studio Bind, which produces Mushoku Tensei, was launched as a joint venture between EGG FIRM and WHITE FOX, the latter of which was recently acquired by AlphaPolis. Depending on existing ownership ratios, this could effectively place Studio Bind under Aniplex’s consolidated control as well.
Outside of anime production, EGG FIRM also co-operates the online store of J.C.STAFF, the studio responsible for DanMachi. The two companies have worked closely for years on the DanMachi anime franchise, as well as The Executioner and Her Way of Life.
In 2022, J.C.STAFF executive officer and production division head Yuji Matsukura described Osawa as: “one of the producers I trust most in the anime industry.”
The acquisition comes at a notable moment for EGG FIRM’s major franchises. Mushoku Tensei Season 3 is scheduled to air in July, while DanMachi fans are preparing for the franchise’s major 10th anniversary event, Aedes Vesta, taking place on February 7.
With Aniplex expanding its production footprint and EGG FIRM maintaining creative continuity under the same leadership, the move signals a further tightening of Sony’s influence across the anime production landscape.
